Overview of Program

The Workplace-Based Assessment (WBA) program at West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG) is a structured 12-month initiative designed to support international medical graduates (IMGs) in transitioning to clinical practice in Australia. This program is run on behalf of the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and is particularly beneficial for IMGs who have passed the AMC1 and hold limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

Program Overview

• Duration: 12 months
• Assessment Methods: A combination of mini clinical evaluation exercise and case-based discussion is employed to evaluate candidates in clinical skills across 6 disciplines; Medicine, Surgery, Women’s Health, Paediatrics, Mental Health & Emergency Medicine.
• Supervision: Participants receive guidance from experienced clinicians who provide feedback and support throughout the program.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the WBA program at WGHG, candidates must:

• Have passed the AMC examination.
• Hold limited registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Have been employed by WGHG for at least 9 months prior to be eligible to apply for the WBA program.
• For the WBA program, IMG candidates must be working at WGHG with an appointment as a doctor at HMO level or above, in a full-time capacity.
• Demonstrate proficiency in English and the ability to work effectively within an Australian healthcare setting.

Cost of the Program

• This program is fee paying. Cost for the program is: $12,000.
• Applicants are also required to pay an administration fee directly to the AMC. If you are accepted onto the WBA program, you will be contacted to pay the appropriate fees.
