Expected Length of Stay

Depending on the wellbeing of you and your baby, you can expect to stay in hospital for two nights after the birth of your baby or three to four nights if you have had a caesarean birth. You will be offered at least one postnatal home visit with a midwife after leaving hospital

On the day that you leave from hospital, you will be discharged between 10.00am and 12 noon. Please discuss your discharge time with your midwife if you are unable to leave between these times.

Support services available on discharge:

  • home visits with a midwife
  • general practitioner support
  • maternal and child health nurse
  • breastfeeding support program – lactation consultant
  • Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA)
  • post acute care (home help)
  • other support available according to need
