Blyth Bros. flower farm donated 40,000 bulbs this year, which local businesses will sell at $25 per bag of 50 bulbs. All proceeds go to WGHG’s Allied and Community Health services to purchase equipment and social welfare resources.

Daffodils bulbs are planted in autumn and flower in spring. They can be grown in pots, rock gardens, along driveways or clumped under deciduous trees.
Blyth Bros. spokesman David Blyth says: “They’re the simplest thing of all. Wait until your soil is cool enough and plant your bulbs in well-worked soil at twice the depth of the bulb. Happy days! Wait until they turn up in spring.”
Last year’s daffodil bulb sales raised $20,525.
Over thirty years, the fundraiser has helped buy new wheelchairs, walking aids, rehabilitation equipment such as balance and agility trainers, food and fuel vouchers, a washing machine and dryer to launder clothes for long-stay patients who don’t have family to assist them, and more.
WGHG Acting Allied and Community Health Director Sally Wilson says: “The Daffodil Bulb funds go a long way every year, enhancing the care we provide to our community across several programs. The Blyth family’s support over three decades is immeasurable, as is the backing we get from the local businesses that sell the bags for us year after year. We simply couldn’t do it without them.”
The Blyth family grow over 100 varieties of daffodils on 350 hectares in Ellinbank. They harvest and process over 500 tonnes of bulbs each year.
