The Lions Club of Warragul is helping improve care for mothers, sick babies and high dependency patients at West Gippsland Hospital.
The club presented $42,737 to the Hospital’s Annual Equipment Appeal – the highest amount received by a single donor in the appeal’s history.
Director of Clinical Operations, Trish O’Kelly, said the donation was an incredible contribution that would make a huge impact on patient care.
“It will be used towards the purchase of a new ergonomic birthing bed, a wireless patient monitor for high dependency patients and a phototherapy unit to treat sick babies.”
“To receive this level of support after an incredibly challenging year is humbling and will directly support our clinical teams to deliver quality patient care.”
Warragul Lions Club President, Michael Stephenson, said the money was raised through the hard work of many Warragul Lions volunteers through catering, Lions Christmas cakes, Lions mints, Book Fair and fire wood sales.
“As the money is raised locally, we want it to benefit the local community and in our eyes, the West Gippsland Hospital is a necessity for local people of all ages.”
“We also successfully applied for additional grant support from the Australian Lions Foundation which enabled us to increase our donation for this vital equipment.”
WGHG Board Chair, Christine Holland, praised all Lions volunteers for their unwaivering support to the community, the hospital and many other community organisations.”
“Our Annual Hospital Equipment Appeal is a great way for clubs, businesses and individuals to support their community and improve care for local people.
“We thank all those who have already donated. West Gippsland Hospital needs 6 priority medical equipment items and any donation amount – great and small – will help to achieve that goal.”
