Cooinda Lodge Aged Care temporarily closed to visitors

Important information for families and carers of Cooinda Lodge Residents.

From CEO Dan Weeks

I am writing to advise you that late yesterday we were notified that a West Gippsland Healthcare Group staff member had returned a positive test for COVID 19 (Coronavirus).

The employee had followed correct procedures – upon feeling unwell, the employee rang in sick, self-isolated at home, and was tested. The employee has not been at work since last Saturday (4th July).

The employee is not based in Cooinda Lodge, and while the staff member may have been in Cooinda prior to becoming unwell, we do not believe any residents were in close contact with the employee.

We are undertaking the testing of our staff as a precautionary measure. We are now requiring masks on all staff as part of our precautions.

Unfortunately, the other main change is that we are required by the Victorian Public Health Unit to close all communal spaces (eg dining and lounge areas) and NO visitors are allowed to enter the facility until further notice.

I apologise for the inconvenience and frustration this may cause you, not being able to visit your loved one. However our primary focus is for the safety of our staff, residents, visitors and the community.

Please do not hesitate to raise any concerns or questions with Tam Thomas, Cooinda Lodge Manager or the nurse in charge.
Phone: Cooinda Lodge 03 5623 0769

I thank you for your understanding and cooperation under these difficult circumstances.

Yours sincerely,

Dan Weeks
Chief Executive Officer
