Our community has proved once again it has a big heart after donating $164,000 to this year’s West Gippsland Hospital’s Annual Equipment Appeal.
A record total of $164,000 was raised in eight weeks and will be used to purchase each and every one of the top seven medical items needed by our patients, doctors, nurses and allied health staff. Funds raised above the initial target will also go to much-needed additional equipment.
West Gippsland Healthcare Group Chief Executive Office Dan Weeks celebrated the success of this year’s annual appeal with patient Terry Smith and Nurse Unit Manager of Haemodialysis Suzanne Griffiths this week.
Terry was the face of this year’s West Gippsland Hospital’s Annual Equipment Appeal and featured in the advertising materials and flyers.
Terry is one of the Haemodialysis patients here at West Gippsland Hospital and receives treatment three times a week. Terry was thrilled a new dialysis treatment chair would be coming to the Haemodialysis Unit.
West Gippsland Healthcare Group Acting Board Chair/Board Chair Elect Jo-Anne Moorfoot said the record amount raised for the appeal was absolutely amazing.
“I want to thank each and every person in our community for digging deep and donating to our major fundraiser,” she said.
“Donations were received from individuals, families, former patients, staff, physicians, clubs, service clubs and businesses.
“This generosity will enable West Gippsland Healthcare Group to purchase all of the equipment items identified for the appeal and more.”
West Gippsland Healthcare Group Chief Executive Officer Dan Weeks wanted to take the opportunity to thank the community for the ongoing support.
“On behalf of everyone at West Gippsland Healthcare Group, a huge thank you to our community,” he said.
“The West Gippsland community has a long and proud tradition of supporting our hospital and it does not go unnoticed. We are extremely grateful.”
West Gippsland Hospital’s Annual Equipment was launched on Tuesday 23 May 2023.
It raised funds to purchase much-needed medical equipment for the hospital and our aged care residences which is not covered by government funding.
This year’s wish list items included a ventilator for Emergency Department and Medical Unit, a portable urine measuring system for Consulting Suites, a mobile vital observation monitor for Community Health, a bladder scanner for Cooinda Lodge and Andrews House, a Broda pressure-relieving chair for Cooinda Lodge, a dialysis treatment chair for Haemodialysis and a Sara Stedy Hoist for Medical Unit.
