About Us

Located in the Shire of Baw Baw, we provide care to people residing in Gippsland and surrounding areas.

West Gippsland Healthcare Group is a sub-regional health service that provides emergency, acute medical and surgical, obstetric, paediatric, community and aged care services. Our primary catchment area is the Shire of Baw Baw, although patients attend our service from other areas in Gippsland and outer Melbourne. Our service delivery responsibilities cross rural, urban residential and agricultural areas. To provide care we operate from a number of campuses including:

• West Gippsland Hospital in Warragul

• Community Health Centres in Warragul, Trafalgar and Rawson

• Cooinda Lodge (Warragul) and Andrews House (Trafalgar) aged care residences

We value our partnerships with other organisations that enable us to facilitate the care our community needs.

Our key service partners include:

• Ambulance Victoria

• Tertiary referral agencies for highly complex care

• Gippsland Primary Health Network and General Practitioners

• Residential aged care providers

• A range of specialist community-based services that provide social support and safety

• Baw Baw Shire Council

• Private hospitals

• A range of other healthcare professionals including Visiting Medical Officers.

Whilst retaining our independence as a health service, from 1 July 2025 West Gippsland Healthcare Group formed part of the new Gippsland Local Health Service Network, which also includes:

• Bairnsdale Regional Health Service

• Central Gippsland Health Service

• Latrobe Regional Health

• Omeo District Health

• Orbost Regional Health

• South Gippsland Hospital

• Yarram and District Health  

The new network will enable deeper collaboration across the Gippsland region and specialist tertiary health services. Health services will work together in new ways to comprehensively meet the needs of the Gippsland community and provide safe and effective care as close to home as possible.  The priority focus areas for the new network are access, equity and flow, workforce, safety and quality, and shared services.

Our partnership with agencies in the Local Health Service Network are critical. Over the coming years, we will work together to evolve our system of care, coordinating our clinical services and attracting and retaining the right workforce.
